Here’s what to know about the NCAA college hoops title oddsboard:
The Favorites: Early in the season, it’s crowded atop the oddsboard, with six teams at +1400 or shorter, led by Houston at +1000 and Purdue at +1100. The Cougars entered last year’s tournament as the top seed in the Midwest Region, and fell to Florida — the West Region’s top seed — in the national title game last season. Houston is currently the No. 2 team in the country, with wins over Lehigh and Towson to start the season. Its first big test will come against Auburn on Nov. 16. As for the No. 1 team in the country, it’s Purdue, the second team on the title oddsboard. Last season, the Boilermakers fell to Houston by two in the Sweet 16. They are also 2-0 this season, with a primetime tilt at No. 15 Alabama set for Thursday.
Immediate Challengers: Duke is No. 6 in the country and third on the oddsboard. It made it to the Final Four last season, where it melted late in a 3-point defeat to the Cougars. Although the Blue Devils lost a bevy of talent — most notably 2025 NBA Draft No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg — it brought in the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class, highlighted by brothers Cameron and Cayden Boozer. Fourth on the oddsboard is the No. 4 team in the land, the UConn Huskies, who won the national title in 2023 and 2024. Last season, they lost by two to eventual champion Florida in the second round.
